Frequently Asked Questions
Hackathon should not be mixed with criminal hacking, where malefactors try to enter illegally and unethically into a computer system. When we use the word «hack», we mean it as exploratory and lucrative programming. We are trying to «hack the problem» in order to find a solution to it. In simpler terms, a hackathon can be seen as a combination between a science fair, an invention and entrepreneurship competition, where everything has to be done in a short amount of time.
Do I have to sign up?
Is it only programming?
Even though by definition, a hackathon is a marathon where we do collaborative computer programming, and that BrebeufHx will be mostly hosting programming workshops, we also wish to integrate other aspects during the event. In fact, we highly encourage participants to integrate robotics, sciences, maths, etc., since, for us, innovation isn't only done through computer programming.
What kind of project can I do?
Are there prizes to win?
Yes, you absolutely have to sign up online, or else we will not be admitting you on the day of the event. We need to have an exact number of participants in order to prepare the materials necessary for everyone. If people arrive without having signed up online, we will be incapable of welcoming them.
